21st Century Skills
in the project
The 4 C's of 21st Century Skills:
-
Critical thinking: Students will have to find solutions to problem give: make a renewable energy art design

-
Creativity: Students will have to come up with original designs that will also function as renewable energy.

-
Collaboration: Students will have to work together as a group to form a research plan and present a design.
-
Communication: In order to complete these projects students will need to communicate with each other and be able to discuss their ideas and thoughts to their group members.
21st Century Literacy Skills:
-
Information literacy: Students will have to be able to understand facts, figures and data, while they do research and learn about renewable energy.

-
Media literacy: They will also need to be able to understand information published online and decide if it’s credible.
-
Technology literacy: Students will need to use the internet for research and watching videos. They will also be given several digital options to create their project, if so they choose.
21st Century Life Skills:
-
Flexibility: Students will have to be able to deviate from plans as issues arise.

-
Leadership: While students work together teacher will make sure to acknowledge and praise team members who are motivating teammates to accomplish a goal (any good teamwork will be praised)

-
Productivity: Students must demonstrate self- efficiency by keeping on task and avoid distractions. Students will have to complete tasks within the given time limit.

-
Social skills: Students will have to be able to collaborate and communicate with their peers (group members). Students will also have to practice methods of problem solving to discuss and solve issues that may arise within their group.
STEAM Implementation:
-
Science
Students will have to apply what they have learned and researched about the various ways of creating renewable energy in order to decide the best way of creating the art design that they want. Students will also go through the steps of problem solving while planning and constructing their design.

-
Technology
Students will be using technology throughout this project. Students will be able to use tech tools to guide their learning by watching videos, VR tours and using websites to find and gather information. They will also be given the option to create their design using different tech tools and apps (World Brush, 3DBear, ChatterPix Kids, Figment AR).

-
Engineering
Students will have to plan/design and engineer their own sustainable energy art. They will focus on selecting proper materials that match the methods used to create clean energy (solar energy based design will need to incorporate solar panels.)
-
Art
Not only will students use art to create their model/design of their sustainable energy art but they will also learn how art is used to help the Earth.
-
Math
Students will use what they have learned about how to find the area of shapes and the different measurements (miles/feet/inches) to describe how much area is needed for their design.
Cross-curriculum:
Environmental Science: Students will learn about renewable and non-renewable sources. Students will also do a deep dive into one particular type of renewable energy.
Math: Students will used their knowledge of math (finding an area of a shape) and applied to a real word problem
Art: Students will learn how art is used to improve renewable energy. They will also use art methods to create/design their project.
